Time and Size -based Log Rotation
You can combine the time and size-based rotation features to prevent log files from growing too large, while still enforcing periodic rotation. The system first applies the size-based rotation policy, and then applies the time-based policy.
Sample
The following sample rotates the log file every day and whenever the log exceeds 250 MB.
<Configuration status="warn" name="MyApp" packages="">
<Appenders>
<RollingFile name="RollingFile" fileName="logs/app.log"
filePattern="logs/$${date:yyyy-MM}/app-%d{MM-dd-yyyy}-%i.log.gz">
<PatternLayout>
<Pattern>%d %p %c{1.} [%t] %m%n</Pattern>
</PatternLayout>
<Policies>
<TimeBasedTriggeringPolicy />
<SizeBasedTriggeringPolicy size="250 MB"/>
</Policies>
</RollingFile>
</Appenders>
<Loggers>
<Root level="error">
<AppenderRef ref="RollingFile"/>
</Root>
</Loggers>
</Configuration>
