Entropy Pool and RNG

Windows and Linux

You have a standard random number generator (RNG) already installed as part of your operating system, and the Luna Client software is able to use it. (See "About Entropy")

Solaris, HP-UX, AIX

On Solaris, HP-UX or AIX operating systems, it is possible that you might not have a Random Number Generator (RNG) or entropy gathering daemon (EGD) installed by default. Or, you may have a suitable device, but it does not generate its pool of random data on an expected path/socket. Check if your system has the device
/var/run/egd-pool

If it does not, you may have another suitable device, such as:
/dev/egd-pool
/etc/egd-pool
/etc/entropy
or other. If you have a suitable source of random data, but it is not the expected one, you can create a symbolic link between the existing filepath and  /var/run/egd-pool. If no valid device exists on your system, the Client will be unable to connect with the Luna SA. The install script checks for this device and stops if it is not found. Contact your system administrator; appropriate utilities for your system are available from your vendor.

Do NOT simply "touch" a file in the expected location to create an empty placeholder file. This may allow the software to install, but it will not provide the random data needed to build a secure link between the Client and the Luna appliance.
