Driver Timeout Adjustment

In case of failure of the HSM or loss of communication between the HSM and the appliance operating system, the device driver has a preset timeout, after which an error condition is reported, allowing your or your applications to react with appropriate measures.

In some cases it might be appropriate for the system to quickly give up and report an error so that your application environment can adjust with the shortest possible delay. The presumption is that even if the HSM might resume on its own, you prefer to have corrective measures in place immediately.

In other cases, it might not be considered necessary to respond urgently if giving the HSM a little more time might allow it to resume without disruptive measures, on your part.

Each situation is different, so you can view the current driver timeout with hsm driver timeout show. If you prefer to extend or shorten the current timeout value, you can do so with hsm driver timeout set -seconds <anumberofseconds>.
